One has to heed the teachings of Belial to understand Necromancy in SpellForce. Necromancy was invented by Belial, the demigod of Death, the servant of Zarach that's responsible for moulding the Dark Races into what they are, which in the end didn't satisfy Belial thus he created the art of summoning the souls of the deceased from the shores of the Mor Duine, the River of Souls, before they'd follow Hirin the Rider into the silvery waters for another life. If you could shape souls into banshees, ghosts, and wraiths would you want them to look like old crones or shape them to look intimidating, powerful, or beautiful?Īt the very least if I was a necromancer I wouldn't wish to surround myself by creatures whose sight disgusted me. Though in all seriousness, if you could turn the bones of the dead and the souls of the dying into immortal soldiers, would you make them look like battle hardened soldiers or shambling corpses that appear as if they are struggling to not fall apart? I'll take what I can get since necromancy is so rarely allowed for the player to use in fantasy games without being horribly nerfed. However, I suppose we will still have to put up with the all "undead must be ugly" aspect which is tolerable. While I really appreciate that the game is allowing for playable necromancy, I also hope the player is not forced to act like a generic villain in the RP aspects of the game.īecause lets be honest here, Necromancy is like any other type of magic in that it isn't inherently evil.
